Projections with Depth
January 25th, 2011
Taking apart slide projectors to their basic optical display components. Wilson is planning on having 3 slides in each projector that can be viewed individually when standing from certain distances. The first projector will function as the manual for the rest projectors. He is using printed transparencies instead of slide films to have absolute contrast.
A series of images that would describe how the apparatus works will function as the manual for the first projector. There will be three layers and the beam of light being broken by the human bodies is the entry point to the project.
The construction of the objects has been completed. All that is left is the imagery content. there is the dynamic of the projection having the influence of attention. The turn of the last century having an issue of ‘lack of attention’ within society. The phantasmagloria and the projection existing away from the original’s (creator’s) presense. The “Suspension of the Projections”.
Wilson understands the exhibition will be based in “special effects”, and will influence the content. The only decided images are those of the apparatus explaining itself.
Critique:
Craig Kalpakjian: Getting people to pick-up the screens when no one is there could be a serious issue. How to make the audience understand where the plans are and interact with them successfully is still an issue.
Wilson Hill: Looking into possibly making markings to display distances. Unsure as to how many slides per machine, because there is no content. The LED’s have provided an escape to worry that the transparent slides would burn out or be burnt through.
