Unfinished
November 16th, 2009
Showcased unfinished pieces: performance piece/installation that will be a part of an upcoming exhibition show. The focus being that of a home structure from whatever is available. It will also have 2 video channel pieces; one is positioned inside the structure to try and symbolize internal home, the other to showcase an external home outside the structure.
Jen has been researching tents and homeless shelters that built by homeless people. The footage has a method of “searching” with the camera.
With all this research she will be attempting to built a “fort-like” structure 24/7 within an exhibition space and then live in the structure for 3 days. This as a method of questioning of what makes up a home. The social-political backdrop being that of the recent recession is creating a lot of families being displaced and her personal history is that she never really had a home. This is more of an attempt to re-evaluate the idea of what home is.
Critique:
Timothy Druckrey: Jen, change your expectations from “not caring” who enters the space to considering the audience and restructure her videos. Go out and actually ask homeless people and analyze how they live.
